October 7 is also the cut-off date for making any corrections or updates to existing voter registration records, like address or name changes, before the November 5 election.

Texas law requires eligible unregistered voters to register by the 30th day before the election day in which they would like to vote.

The downtown Harris County Tax Office at 1001 Preston is extending its hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to assist those who would like to register to vote or update their voter registration records before the deadline.

“My staff is out in the community conducting voter registration events and will work late in downtown Houston on Monday to ensure eligible unregistered voters have the opportunity to register before the state’s deadline,” said Bennett. “I also encourage registered voters to review their voter registration records before the October 7 deadline to ensure that all of their information is correct before the state’s deadline.”
